If Google had a black screen, taking into account the huge number of times this search engine is used, 750 mega watts/hour of energy per year would be saved. In recognition of this fact, Google has created a black version of its search engine, called Blackle, with the exact same functions as the white version, but with lower energy consumption.

but anyway, i thought with LCDs (which i would imagine that a large number of monitors are these days) that black still required the LCDs to project and use power?
ecoiron.blogspot.com/2007/08...ush.html aha! so this blackle thing works well for CRT, but according to this analysis they save about 1/5 to 1/10 of the CRTs, not a huge difference really to go black on an LCD, and they claim there is almost a 75% penetration of LCDs in the worldwide market (Japan they say is 99.3% LCD technology)
It sounds like a great idea, but as usual, the reality is different than the hype... couldn't hurt though I guess. -

Not to cause any sudden paranoia, but does everyone know that google KEEPS ALL of your searches? And gmail is from google. therefore, they have access to your info, etc.
This is totally different from a hacker. We are giving them permission. no one reads those terms of agreement.

Tue, January 8, 2008 - 2:10 PMsince Bush has been listening to my phone calls for terrorist references (and this is only what we know about) I am somehow a little nonplussed over the idea that some corporation could find out that I am googling for macbook accessories or show times for movies... I guess if I needed an anarchist cookbook and 10 pounds of tnt I might be a little more worried, but having google find out that I enjoy sci-fi and horror movies is kind of bland... we're quickly becoming a transparent society and that may not be the worst thing because the watched also get to be the watchers... hive mind baby. -
